Saturday 4 February 2023, Edinburgh and Inverness
UNCON is an event designed to showcase and celebrate the best of youth arts and creativity in Scotland. Since 2016, it’s been held every two years. What makes UNCON special is that it is an event designed by young people, for young people, that showcases and celebrates some of the amazing young talent here in Scotland.
The latest edition of UNCON took place on Saturday 4 February 2023 - find out more about the events!
This event took place at Inverness Creative Academy and was produced by young people in the arts and was a first for the area.
UNCON is an exciting opportunity to celebrate young talent in Highland arts and to network with other young artists. As part of the event, young people were encouraged to bring examples of their art.

Hello and welcome to UNCON!
We are members of the National Youth Arts Advisory Group (NYAAG), a creative programme of work that supports children and young people to be heard, to lead, and to act on the issues that are important to them.
UNCON is short for unconventional. It is an informal youth-led and youth-based event celebrating the talent of children and young people across the arts. UNCON is part of Creative Scotland’s Time to Shine strategy. This is the fourth edition, and since 2020, these events have been hosted online.
What makes UNCON special is that it is an event designed by young people, for young people, that showcases and celebrates some of the amazing young talent here in Scotland.
In 2022, we supported 11 organisations to deliver a mix of youth forums and events, creating opportunities for young people to come together to share ideas, learning and skills, and showcase their work. UNCON is a platform for those amazing young voices who have been funded by this strand and have participated in our wider programme of work.
You can see a full list of the projects we supported on the projects page.
We also wanted to showcase the work of young artists who have recently been supported through youth arts bursary funding.
This year, we also hosted two events as part of UNCON 2023. These were held in Edinburgh and Inverness in February, and were daylong youth arts festivals organised by young people, for young people to celebrate work, share experiences and talk about the issues that matter to them.’"

A welcome from NYAAG
